About the Artist
Derek McDonald is a High Desert–based sign painter and founder of Golden West Sign Arts, specializing in handcrafted, vintage-inspired signage rooted in traditional techniques.
Largely self-taught, his work draws on historic American sign painting, custom car culture, and mid-century design, all executed by hand using brush and paint.
With experience creating large-scale lettering for Disney and a deep connection to the Mojave Desert, McDonald brings a strong sense of place and craftsmanship to each project, preserving the artistry of hand-painted signs in a digital age.
