This workshop will give you an introduction to glass selection, cutting, kiln preparation, firing processes and studio safety.
You will have the opportunity to explore design options using sheet glass, frits, and other accessory glasses to create fused tiles and jewelry pieces. Gain the knowledge and skills to start fusing on your own.
All glass and tools are supplied. Bring a notebook or sketchpad and your phone/camera to class. Pieces will need to be picked up after firing.
This workshop is recommended for ages 12+, anyone under 17 must be accompanied by an adult with a ticket.
Light refreshments will be provided.
About the Artist
Joyce Rooks is a multi-disciplinary artist and musician based in Desert Hot Springs, California. Known for her handcrafted lampwork glass beads, fused glass, and jewelry, she combines a lifelong background in music with vibrant visual arts.
After transitioning from ceramics to glasswork in 1994, she established a studio in Desert Hot Springs and regularly participates in local arts events, including the Desert Open Studios Tour.
A longtime advocate for STEAM education, she spent more than 30 years at UC San Diego before focusing full-time on her art and community engagement in the Coachella Valley.
