Meet The Old Gays:
Robert Reeves
At 82, Arkansas-born Robert Reeves is the ringleader of The Old Gays, their “Carrie Bradshaw” with a Southern drawl and effortless wit. A former city planner with experience in architecture and real estate, Robert moved to Cathedral City in the mid-1990s after an HIV diagnosis, seeking peace in the desert. What he found instead was renewal and purpose. Today, he’s a beloved local artist and sculptor whose rotating window displays have become neighborhood landmarks. Calm, creative, and naturally funny, Robert leads the group with humor, warmth, and grace.
Mick Peterson
At 69, Mick Peterson is the youngest and most daring member of The Old Gays. Originally from Virginia, Minnesota, Mick’s diverse background includes theater, acting, bodybuilding, and professional writing. Known as the group’s “Samantha Jones,” he’s candid, sex-positive, and unafraid to spark laughter—or blushes. After surviving a near-fatal battle with a genetic condition, Mick emerged stronger than ever, committed to living boldly and joyfully. Intelligent, quick-witted, and fearless, he brings both spice and sincerity to the group’s dynamic.
Bill Lyons
At 81, Bill Lyons is the heartwarming blend of “Charlotte York” and Betty White in The Old Gays. A West Covina native, Bill has worked as a fashion model, interior designer, and in telecommunications, always with a refined eye and a generous spirit. Robert’s closest friend for decades, Bill brings gentle optimism and subtle mischief to every interaction. While he often plays the voice of reason, he’s just as likely to surprise everyone by joining the fun. For Bill, being part of The Old Gays is the most joyful adventure of his life.
Jessay Martin
At 72, Jessay Martin is the soulful performer and emotional anchor of The Old Gays. Hailing from Greeneville, Tennessee, he’s a singer with the Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus and an active member of the local LGBTQ+ community. Raised in a conservative environment, Jessay’s journey toward openness and self-expression has inspired fans around the world. Known for his kindness, energy, and modern flair, he keeps the group connected to younger generations—and to the spirit of love that defines their friendship.
