Artist

Betty Avila, Armando Lerma, and Star Montana will share their work while discussing the intersections of community and new trajectories in Latinx art. Avila leads Self Help Graphics & Art, the esteemed print workshop and community art center founded in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles in 1973. Today, Self Help annually serves over 30,000 Angelinos. Lerma is a local artist and noted muralist who has created projects for Desert X, Coachella Walls, and the Boys & Girls Club Palm Springs. Through his work, he seeks to connect with youth in the Coachella Valley. Montana’s documentary practices explore her family history and the neighborhoods of East Los Angeles through portraiture and video.
