Lake Verea, a queer duo working in conceptual photography, is spending time in Palm Springs photographing iconic and architecturally significant houses in preparation for their forthcoming exhibition at Palm Springs Art Museum, Lake Verea: Dark Rooms and Other Games.

With their hands, the Mexico City-based duo trace and translate the house’s metallic surfaces into delicate impressions on aluminum sheets. The act is both tender and charged, revealing the quiet tension between body and structure, touch and memory, as they encounter the visionary all-metal home designed by Albert Frey and A. Lawrence Kocher.

This frottage performance is one step in the production of a work that will be displayed as a part of their forthcoming exhibition

About Lake Verea

Lake Verea, Dark Rooms: Frey House II, Us As Eyes, 2024

Lake Verea is a queer duo working in conceptual photography, formed in 2005 by Francisca Rivero-Lake and Carla Verea. Their work explores concepts of expanded photography through installation, textile, performance, sculpture, and video. By experimenting with photographic techniques and formats that question authorship, they build narratives that highlight their combined identity to create intimate portraits of architecture, artists’ archives, and people.
