Alternative Palm Springs: Hugh Kaptur’s Unbuilt Work

Hugh Kaptur arrived in Palm Springs in 1956 and spent the next five decades shaping the city, from fire stations and apartment houses to country clubs and the homes of Steve McQueen and William Holden. But a great deal of his best work exists only on paper.

Architectural historian Steven Keylon will offer a brief account of Hugh’s life and career before turning to the projects that were designed but never realized. Through original drawings and photographs of his models, Steven considers what these buildings were meant to be, why they were never built, and what a different Palm Springs might have looked like had they been realized.
