Family+ February

Join us every third Sunday of the month for Family+, a fun and free event for everyone! The museum is transformed into a creative hub where artists, makers, and musicians come together to offer a variety of exciting activities and workshops for kids, teens, and families+.  Join us for a day highlighting black artists leading workshops centered around black history and arts.

Character Development and Painting with Alake Shilling 

Outburst artist Alake Shilling will lead participants through developing their own character; from their outfits, personality, favorite food, and environment. Participants will bring their characters to life through painting.  

There will be three start times for this workshop 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.

Carnival Mask Making with Marie Keller  

Learn about world traditions of festivals and carnival arts through a hands-on activity where you will create your own carnival mask. Founder of Los Angeles Carnival Marie Keller and assistant Bernard Hoyas will lead participants through the process and history of carnival mask making.  

This workshop is drop-in from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Collaging through Play and Community Care with Onnissia Harries 

Join local Artist Onnissia as she walks participants through creating collage art inspired by Gee’s Bend and their focus on community care.  

This workshop is drop-in from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Storytime with Gale Fitzgerald

Author Gale Fitzgerald will read her book Winter in the Desert, a story about a puppy named Winter abandoned in the California Desert who channels her never-give-up spirit to find everlasting love.

Facepainting with Gee Hogan

Local face painter Gee Hogan will offer face painting for all ages.

Available from 12:00 -400 p.m.

Photobooth by Parkside 

Family+ attendees can take home a Polaroid photo that captures their memories for the day.
