Experience Guadalupe Rosales with Live DJ Sets Inside the Exhibition

This June, Palm Springs Art Museum activates Guadalupe Rosales | Tzahualli: Mi memoria en tu reflejo with two live DJ performances inside the exhibition space. These events are free and open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to experience the music and cultural influences that shaped the Chicanx youth subcultures at the heart of Rosales’ work.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12 | 6:00–8:00 P.M.

Butchona DJ Collective

Kicking off the series is LA-based Butchona, a queer DJ collective known for vibrant lesbian parties and spinning regional Mexican music. Their set will include Quebraditas, Banda, and Corridos—genres that rose to prominence in 1990s Southern California, fueled by renewed immigration and popularized through local radio. These sounds reflect the energy and cultural pride of the communities central to Rosales’ archives.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26 | 6:00–8:00 P.M.

Que Madre (All-Vinyl Set)

Closing out the series is Que Madre, a vinyl DJ and proud mother whose musical selections are rooted in East LA’s lowrider oldies and soul. Her set honors the legacy of radio dedications, like those of Art Laboe, that connected Chicanx youth and families across neighborhoods and incarceration systems. These oldies remain a powerful thread in the musical memory of Southern California.  About the Exhibition

Guadalupe Rosales | Tzahualli: Mi memoria en tu reflejo explores collective memory, documentation, and joy in 1990s Chicano/Mexican American/Chicanx youth culture. Rosales’ work builds on a deeply personal and community-centered archive that amplifies the stories, aesthetics, and spirit of young people who created their own spaces of celebration, resistance, and belonging.

This program is part of Free Thursday Nights and is supported by the City of Palm Springs.
