Tom has been an employee of the Palm Springs Art Museum for over 40 years, designing and installing exhibitions. Throughout his life, he has maintained a creative practice that includes both painting and photography.
Of the works on display, Tom says: “I started with pastel drawings, viewing each one as a compositional experiment. I quickly realized what satisfies the hand and the eye for me were patterns made up of blocks of color. The earlier paintings were looser and quicker but soon gave way to a style at once meticulous and random. I hope a viewer's eye will dance across these canvases as their mind tries to reconcile the gestural layers of patterns. Viewed from a distance, the individual points resolve themselves into fields of color.”
