Known for her colorful paintings and sculptures of imagined creatures and landscapes, Los Angeles-based artist Alake Shilling creates whimsical artworks across media. Utilizing a variety of artistic and unconventional materials, Alake renders expressive figures conveying a wide range of emotions. Her personified plants, insects, and animals take inspiration from childhood memories of animated characters and are influenced by Pop art, California Funk art, and other contemporary artistic movements.

OUTBURST: Alake Shilling is curated by Sharrissa Iqbal, Associate Curator, Modern & Contemporary Art, Palm Springs Art Museum.
