AC Experimental Exhibition
at Copper Mountain College

10 April – 29 May 2018

Copper Mountain Community College is in the high desert area near beautiful Joshua Tree National Park. As a way of enlivening campus culture and engaging in the spirit of community outreach, the college is once again inviting PSAM Artists Council members to participate in a unique exhibition opportunity.

The second annual Artists Council Experimental Exhibition (ACEE) is scheduled April 10 through May 28, 2018 and will provide selected artists the opportunity to create site-specific works at various outdoor locations throughout the college's desert campus. Rather than being designated areas for the placement of pre-made works of art, the sites are unique and intended to be starting points of inspiration for the creation of unusual works. Themed works relating to education are encouraged but not required.

As a way of enhancing the educational experience at CMC, Art students will participate as jurors in the selection of exhibiting artists. CMC students will also be available to assist artists during the installation process, and will act as stewards of the installed works for the duration of the show.

Entrance Requirements

Open to PSAM Artists Council members only. Memberships must be valid at time of submission and throughout the duration of exhibit. Submissions must include a clear and concise typewritten description of the proposed installation. Submissions must include images in the form of drawings, manipulated photos or other media, that visually clarify the proposed installation. Each proposal must relate to a specific site on CMC's campus. Submission materials may be in printed or digital format. Label all materials with artists' name, title of installation and site number. Members may submit more than one proposal, however only one proposal per member will be accepted for exhibition. There is a $25 fee for each proposal submitted. All monies collected go to the PSAM Artists Council.

ACEE Guidelinescmc1

The artworks proposed must consider a selected CMC campus site. The site-specific works must be able to endure desert weather such as intense sunlight, wind, heat and rain. Works that change over time in response to the weather are encouraged. The installed works must not interfere with normal college activities.

Installation and take down of the site-specific work is the sole responsibility of the artist and must not interfere with normal college activities. Selected artists may, and are encouraged to, request the assistance of CMC art students during the installation and take down process. CMC students will be available to act as stewards of the work during the show.
