Copper Mountain College

Artists Council Experimental Exhibition (ACEE)

Copper Mountain Community College is located in the high desert area near beautiful Joshua Tree National Park. As a way of enliven-ing campus culture and engaging in the spirit of community outreach, the college is inviting PSAM Artists Council members to participate in a unique exhibition opportunity.

The Experimental Exhibition, scheduled April 1, through May 31, 2017 will provide selected artists the opportunity to create site-specific works at various outdoor locations throughout the college’s bucolic desert campus. Rather than being designated areas for the placement of premade works of art, the sites are unique and in-tended to be starting points of inspiration for the creation of unusual works. Themed works relating to education are encouraged but not required.
As a way to enhance the educational experience at CMC, Art stu-dents will participate in the selection of exhibiting artists. CMC stu-dents will also be available to assist artists during the installation process, and will act as stewards of the installed works for the dura-tion of the show.

Entrance Requirements:

Open to PSAM Artists Council members only. Membership must be valid at time of submission and throughout the duration of exhibit. Submissions must include a clear and concise typewritten descrip-tion of the proposed installation. Submissions must include images in the form of drawings, manipulated photos or other media, that visu-ally clarify the proposed installation. Each proposal must relate to a specific site on CMC’s campus. Submission materials may be in printed or digital format. Label all materials with artist’s name, title of installation and site number. Members may submit more than one proposal, however only one proposal per member will be accepted for exhibition. There is a $25 fee for each proposal submitted.

ACEE Guidelines

The site-specific works must be able to endure desert weather such as sunlight, wind, heat, and rain. Works that respond to the weather are encouraged.
The installed works must not interfere with normal college activities.

Installation and take down of the site-specific work is the sole re-sponsibility of the artist and must not interfere with normal college activities. Installations left after June 3, 2017 will be destroyed.

Selected artists may, and are encouraged to, request the assistance of CMC art students during the installation and take down process. CMC students will be available to act as stewards of the work during the show.

Copper Mountain College or the Palm Springs Art Museum Artists Council or their officers, staff, faculty or volunteers, nor anyone con-nected to the exhibition will not be responsible for loss, damage or theft of any art work installed. There will be a more detailed waiver/release form all exhibiting artists will have to sign.
