OUR HISTORY: CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF THE FINE ARTS CREATIVITY AWARDS PROGRAM
Beginning in 1990, the museum has worked with public and private high schools throughout the Coachella Valley and College of the Desert to present a juried exhibition called the Fine Arts Creativity Awards. Each year, students submit artworks that address an exhibition theme and entries are juried by museum professionals and practicing artists. Jurors consider the creative interpretation of the theme, technical ability, originality, and an imaginative communication of ideas and emotions when making their selections. The Fine Arts program provides a valuable opportunity for young artists to participate in a juried exhibition and to have their artwork displayed in a professional manner in the museum’s galleries. In addition, each year two artworks receive the Fine Arts Creativity Purchase Award and are accessioned into the permanent Education Department Collection at the museum. This exhibition honors the 47 purchase award winners that have become a part of the museum’s permanent collection since this program began.
