Summer Lab (S/LAB) at the A+D Center
This summer marks the launch of the museum’s new Summer Lab or S/LAB. An initiative of Brooke Hodge, Director of Architecture and Design, S/LAB will engage the community in workshops and design exercises related to the new park planned for downtown Palm Springs. Hodge, together with Michael Hinkle, Managing Director of the A+D Center, and colleagues from across the museum, will work closely with Rios Clementi Hale Studios, the landscape architects for the new park, to present design ideas and concepts along with interactive exercises that will offer a window into the design process of creating a new landscape.
Concurrently, the A+D Center, in partnership with the Palm Springs Modern Committee, will also present student work from the St. Theresa Catholic School Structures program, an in-class curriculum on the topic of modernism overseen by PSMODCOM’s Education Committee and educator Linda Patton-Hiatt. On view in the Trina Turk Gallery will be a selection of 6th-grade architectural models, 7th-grade paintings, and 8th-grade presentations about preservation and our community.
Special thanks to Beth Edwards Harris and Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects for their support of this new initiative.
