Classes take place in the Sidonia Milano Center on the museum's Lower Level. Weekday classes are held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekend classes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In order to provide maximum personal attention, classes are limited to 15 students, and classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register as early as possible to ensure enrollment in your class.

CANCELLATION Classes must reach minimum enrolment 30 days before the start of class or the class will be cancelled and full refunds will be issued. Student cancellations up to 14 days out receive a full refund. Student cancellations under 14 days out receive 50% refund of fees paid. There are no pro-rated refunds for partial workshop attendance.

Mr. Burridge will demonstrate his color theories, goals and theme techniques for the purpose of creating powerful show stoppers. SEEING LIGHT AS A PAINTER*

This workshop will cover the basics of color relationships, value, composition and characteristics of light in creating dynamic paintings. Landscape, still life and architectural elements will be incorporated. The brush stroke will be emphasized as a means to create the illusion of form in a painting. Learn how to handle edges, color temperatures, and mass, and how to organize darks and lights as you incorporate value sketches in your work. Ms. Carr's passion for art and enthusiastic, spirited teaching style makes this workshop a fantastic and inspiring experience, filled with brave directions for future paintings.

SOLARPLATE PRINTING*

Includes $30 fee for provided solar plates
Developed by master printmaker Dan Welden, solarplate printmaking utilizes UV light and water instead of traditional grounds and acids. The solar plate is a light-sensitized printing plate that accepts all kinds of images, including drawings, paintings, photocopies, computer print-outs, and photographs. Artists can also paint directly on the plate and create a matrix capable of yielding many impressions. Participants will be able to produce several 7x10-inch images during this intensive workshop. Encaustics 2012

Encaustic painting is one of the earliest forms of painting, dating back thousands of years. Encaustics 2012 will explore its modern expression. Learn how to use beeswax and dammar resin to create beautiful textured or flat, translucent paintings. The class will encompass the creation of encaustic medium, use of the materials, photo transfer, and much more. Most tools and equipment will be supplied. THE FREE-WHEELING WORLD OF ARTIST'S BOOKMAKING

Let go of traditional ideas of what defines a book! Learn the basic skills of bookmaking and simple binding, then explore the making of an altered book. Artistic expression, curiosity, playfulness, mystery and beauty are all part of the fun. Students will start with an existing book (provided) then transform it into their own altered book, using collage, found objects, fasteners, handmade paper, wax on paper, and a "goody box" for students to rummage through (provided). This is a dynamite workshop covering color, strong design, creation of sensual edges, the importance of "quiet colors" - plus how to get that special glow in your paintings. Ms. Fox works and demonstrates in acrylics, but any painting medium is welcome. You will leave with knowledge and power that will take your art to a higher level. Another great aspect of this workshop is learning how to incorporate the "artistic mindset." One of the most crucial parts of creating great artwork is your view of YOU. INTRODUCTION TO PLEIN-AIR PAINTING*
April 9 - 12, Monday - Thursday

If you've been thinking about taking your painting outdoors, this is the class for you. The first day will be spent in the classroom discussing equipment and becoming familiar with the tools for painting "en plein air." Discussion about how to start a painting, its composition, and color mixing outdoors will help ease your mind about the outdoor painting experience. The following days, class will meet at local "painting spots."

A SPECIAL DAY: DESERT LIGHT EXPERIENCE
Saturday, March 10 – Special hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
$230 AC members, $280 nonmembers; Includes $30 materials fee
Students will experience an enriching day in the desert and emerge with unique impressions in memory and on paper. The course starts in the nearby Indian Canyons, with an exhilarating mind/body/spirit wake-up of t'ai chi movement and focus, led by America's Premier Fitness Expert, Scott Cole. For the balance of the morning, local photography expert Chari Godakanda will lead discussion about the demands and opportunities of desert photography, and students will put these principles into use, using their own digital cameras. Lunch will be provided by Native Foods, known for their delicious emphasis on desert-oriented food. Returning to the museum after lunch, the afternoon will be spent creating solarplate prints (which uses sunlight instead of chemicals to develop printing plates) from selected images taken that morning, under the instruction of award-winning artist Dennis Johnson. Students will meet in the museum's parking lot and work out the day's carpooling before departing for this memorable day.
Life Drawing
The Artists Council also hosts non-instructed life drawing sessions throughout the year. These sessions are meant for experienced artists, who are looking for a creative atmosphere in which to paint or draw the live models provided. A facilitator is on hand to help artists set up and to time the poses. Reservations are recommended, as the class limit is 15 attendees. Call the museum's Box Office at 760-325-4490.
