TeenStudio Projects are art classes created especially for teens ages 13-19. Visiting artists present fundamental approaches to art that encourage you to think creatively and develop your own style. You will learn a variety of techniques while working with new practices and materials, all in the comfort of the Palm Springs Art Museum's galleries and art studios. In addition, TSP gives you a chance to meet other creative and like-minded teens.
The 20th annual Fine Arts Creativity Awards and Scholarship Program exhibition will be held on Friday, April 2, 2010 in the Annenberg Theater from 5:30-8 p.m. Each year Coachella Valley high schools and College of the Desert submit works in various media including painting, sculpture, drawing, and photograph. This year’s exhibition titled Blurring Boundaries: Tradition | HD will challenge young artists to think about the role that boundaries – physically, technologically, and socially – play in their lives. The works are juried by museum professionals and practicing artists. Jurors will consider creative interpretation of the theme, technical ability, originality, and imaginative communication of ideas and emotions when making their selection.
The third annual Teen Meet the Museum party, exclusively for teens ages 13-19, is inspired by the museum’s collections. The evening will include live music, art projects, photo stations, and a graffiti art wall. Each teen who attends will receive a complimentary one-year membership to the museum. A waiver form is required for all attendees. Please contact Emily Spallina at 760.322.4486 or for more information.
FUNDING PROVIDED BY THE JAMES IRVINE FOUNDATION AND DONNA AND CARGILL MACMILLAN.
TAG is a year-round program comprised of teens from throughout the Coachella Valley. The goal of TAG is for teens to be truly involved in art activities and active participants at the museum. Members help create and design teen workshops and programs, create an altar installation as part of the museum’s Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead celebration, plan the annual Teen Meet the Museum event, engage in special artistic opportunities and explore their intellectual and creative potentials.
