CRISTOPHER CICHOCKI -- DESERT ABYSS: CYCLE IN CYCLE

08/16/13 - 10/27/13
Palm Springs Art Museum

As the Palm Springs Art Museum’s 2013 Artist-in-Residence, Cristopher Cichocki has created a large scale installation entitled, Desert Abyss: Cycle in Cycle, in Zone 101 in the Hoover Gallery. Cichocki promotes an awareness of interconnectivity between the continually shifting elements above and below the surface of everyday perception. Mutations of nature and industry manifest within the artists' multi-sensory installation environments.

Zone 101 in the Hoover Gallery will be immersed in regional cacti, uprooted trees, sand, and fish from the Salton Sea radiating underneath the glow of ultra-violet illumination. A hybrid array of painting, photography, sculpture, sound and video works impress a sense of oceanic depths coexisting with a vast barren desert. Desert Abyss: Cycle in Cycle examines the past, present, and future of the Coachella Valley from its ancient underwater origins to the timely environmental issues that are on the horizon.
