The Photography Collection Council's goal is to foster the collection and exhibition of photography at the Palm Springs Art Museum, principally through financial and photographic contributions that reflect the goals articulated in the council's mission statement. The PCC and its members contribute, through gift and purchase, works by artists of national and international reputation that follow the museum's collecting focus. In addition, members are encouraged to gift works by those artists who are essential to the narrative of photographic art history as a foundation and context for the museum's more particular focus.
The PCC serves as the principal support group for the development of a collection that reflects these themes and their relationship to the historic roots of photographic modernism. Its main function is to promote and support the museum's goal to become one of the countries' leading repositories of photographs in this mode as a source of internal and traveling exhibitions, scholarly study, and publications.
