Dan Chavkin – Midcentury Parking Lots
MIDCENTURY PARKING LOTS is a photographic book based on a selection of parking lots throughout Palm Springs whose common attribution is that each one belongs to an iconic midcentury modern building. Initially inspired by artist Edward Ruscha’s seminal 1967 book ‘Thirty-Four Parking Lots’ both in concept and typographic presentation, Dan Chavkin thoughtfully captures the architectural qualities inherent in a commercial parking lots design.
Without direct reference to the architecture itself, captions accompany each photograph stating both the buildings name and its address and are presented in a zine format- a noncommercial often homemade or online publication usually devoted to specialized and often unconventional subject matter. The presentation will be followed by a Q & A and a book signing.
